World Cup Minecraft madness begins!!

After a successful week spent teaching the teacher we decided we were ready to dive into our first ever game based learning topic!

We began by using Padlet to brainstorm what a World Cup football statium would need. This promoted lots of discussion in class.

Our first task began with creating the pitch. We needed to think about the size, area and perimeter. We already knew that one block in the world of Minecraft was 1m by 1m. This created lots of interesting discussion about doubling, halving and the use of odd and even numbers to help us get goal posts and centre lines exactly in the middle.

We used the grid method and column addition on mini whiteboards to work out the perimeter and area.

We took a screen shot to insert our pitches into Pic Collage and labelled the area and perimeter. (Thanks to Mr P for the Pic Collage idea). After half term we will continue to build our stadiums using the literacy and numeracy framework to guide us.
